When I found out Liverpool has a Chinatown section, I had to check it out. Each restaurant has this awesome deal [which I don't think is a thing in New York] where you can get a starter, main and dessert for a fixed price. Sign me UP. They even do meals for two where you can select all of this yummy chinese food goodness. But amazingly enough on a Tuesday night, half the places weren't even open. And then there was Jumbo City. The rest is history.
I need this menu to become the standard menu across the world because there were soooo many options. We started with a dim sum combo appetizer which featured many different types of dumplings, spring rolls and samosas. I was in heaven. Then we did our special dinners with another starter, the main and the dessert. I felt like I was back in China having an authentic meal.
Service was good and the prices were decent. I was extremely satisfied with my food, so for that, 5 stars. -

Because there are so many restaurants situated so close together in the Chinatown area, it's hard to choose which one to go to and you can be forgiven for thinking that they are all much of a muchness.
Often you will avoid one because it looks a bit shabby or dirty - big mistake if you pass Ma Bo's, never judge a book and all that. Otherwise you might choose somewhere because it looks all shiny, new and bright - these often attract gangs of scallies late at night and it would be unfair for me to name the venue we were in when the guy on the next table puked into his bowl of chow mein then passed out next to it.
On the other hand it is often wise to listen to a mate of Chinese origin who swears by Jumbo City. Big menu, plenty to choose from, very polite staff and nice surroundings. Jobs a good'un although I wouldn't say it was all that special, ah but then I don't speak Chinese and get something that isn't on the menu. After a few minutes of Cantonese the rest of us were simply left to wonder what his big bowl of fried stuff and noodles was while we all got the usual. -

A pleasant little Chinese in China town, we wandered down not quite sure where to go and a little lost and spoilt for choice, hungry using the scientifically proven theory of 'ip-dip-do', wound up in Jumbo City.
The soups and prawn toast were lovely, really hit the spot and had us hankering for more. I thought I'd be wild and choose something other than my usual sweet and sour chicken and went with the shredded chilli chicken pieces which were covered in batter. (Adventurous, right?)
The only problem was...well, piece after piece, I realised something was missing. The chicken! Thinking maybe it was all at the bottom, I soldiered on, but by the time I was half way through, I gave up on it and just expected chilli flavoured batter.
On the flip side, my mate ordered the satay beef and it was amazing! (Yes I stole some to make up for the lack on my plate... such a bad friend!) Nice enough, and the starter made up for the main. I just won't be ordering that darned 'chicken' again!
